In loving memory of William Olin Miller, Sr. (June 16, 1942-February 18, 1989)

Bill Miller died unexpectantly in Windsor, England, February 18, 1989. He was 46 years old and in great health, we thought. In the early morning he was jogging in the park along the Thames River and must have had a heart problem. His most recent Coca-Cola Company assignment was working with Neville Isdell as Assistant Division Manager for Africa, headquartered in London, England.

Olin was a sophomore in University of Virginia and Lester was a junior in Westminster High School. I was working at CDC and scheming to get a position in London with the School of Tropical Medicine when the time came to move.

Bill was especially missed by his family. His two brothers and two sisters have kept close to the three of us throughout these years. Bill kept the family fissures from ever developing with his masterful diplomacy that served him so well in his career with Coca-Cola.

All the ladies in the Coca-Cola Company thought of Bill as one of their best friends  and the men thought of Bill as the most optimistic the task at hand could be done. He was known as The Project Man, able to turn out the job in a timely manner.

A good man is hard to find. As soon as I got a job after the family landed in Atlanta in 1984, Bill put on an apron to help me with the kitchen clean-up chores. No golf for Bill because he said he needed to spend that time with the family. Mention anything around the house and Bill was so handy as mechanic, plumber, carpenter and decorator.

As my eighty year-old friend told me at the time, “ If you had one good one, why would you want another one?”  Bill was certainly a good one!

Bill is remembered in the Blazers Memorial Garden by the Viburnum
